Classroom Management Case Study - Layla

Layla is an intelligent, very talkative female in a low level algebra class. Her academic ability is superior to most of the other students in her math class. She often finishes work quickly (and correctly) and talks to others. She can be loud – sometimes talking to people across the room during classwork time. She sometimes curses as she is having a conversation. She is typically respectful towards the teacher.

Generate a classroom management profile to help her.  Identify strategies you would use for prevention, intervention and remediation.

  1. Sounds like she's gifted/talented. Differentiate by giving her more challenging things to work on, maybe some kind of project work she can turn to when she's done with regular class work? If she has the patience/personality have her help less able students when she is done. Stress that in school (as in life) we respect other people at all times and that cursing shouldn't be part of everyday vernacular.
