Classroom Management Case Study - Farrah

Farrah is an intelligent, gregarious freshman in a college prep algebra class. Her educational achievement doesn’t match her intelligence. She often gets frustrated and gives up on problems that are challenging, mostly because she does not use her notes. She often talks at inappropriate times and giggles during instruction. When she gets a problem right she sometimes responds aloud with pride, “Ayyy, I’m a thug!”

Generate a classroom management profile to help her.  Identify strategies you would use for prevention, intervention and remediation.

  1. Preferential seating to help with frustration and using notes. Positively reward good behavior. Work with her to reduce outbursts for correct problems, try and find a more appropriate phrase the two of us can share.
